This was a fun project exploring working large with drainage pipes. The three day workshop was run by American sculptor Jerry Caplan and held at Yorkshire Sculpture Park. The pipes came from Naylors Pipe Company, specialists in making drainage pipes. The clay was mixed to be completely frost proof and, at that time, they were replacing old Victorian sewer pipes, which was a specialised skill. This was the clay pipe we worked with. I made numerous clay heads, until the company stopped producing this types of pipe. I still have three in my garden from the workshop that have survived for 30 years.
