Perhaps the most fascinating and inspiring ceramics excursion out of the UK was to Jingdezhen in China, the home of porcelain, famous for it’s historical Ming vases. I visited twice for extended periods of work. Below is a gallery of some of the extraordinary sights and activities I experienced.
- Slurry workshop
- Water-powered hammermill
- At work in Sculpture Factory
- Fine relief decorating
- Sculpture Factory kiln
- Pot scavengers
- Pugmill
- Rail depo
- Porcelain miners
- Transporting my work to the Sculpture Factory kiln.
